Lasha

Hello, I'm Lasha Barbosa.
A Fine Artist born in Whitehorse, Yukon, where my lifelong love for the Northern Canadian outdoors shapes my art. As an Exhibiting Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, I create archival ink works on cotton paper, inspired by the healing beauty of nature and the whimsical, anthropomorphic charm of wildlife. After overcoming a brain tumor and chronic health challenges, I use American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate and teach ASL art classes and deliver inspirational ASL public speaking events, encouraging others to embrace resilience and creativity.

Transforming Adversity into Art:
Survive - Thrive - Create
Lasha Barbosa is a remarkable fine artist born in Whitehorse, Yukon, whose work embodies resilience, creativity, beauty, and a playful, comical perspective. An Exhibiting Member of both the Edmonton Chapter and the Vancouver Head Office Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Lasha has remained a devoted Northern Canadian outdoorswoman her entire life. Her delicate archival ink masterpieces on cotton paper, inspired by the animals, forests, foliage, and untamed beauty of the North, reflect the healing power of nature that has guided her through life’s challenges. Diagnosed with a rare brain tumor and chronic health disorders, she faced significant physical and mental health obstacles. Emerging from brain surgery with renewed purpose, Lasha embraced art as a form of therapy and self-expression, discovering an innate talent that has since captivated collectors worldwide.
Communicating through American Sign Language (ASL), Lasha weaves her Northern heritage and experiences into her artistic practice, creating works that transcend barriers and celebrate the adaptability of the human spirit. Her graceful compositions, often depicting the serene beauty of nature and whimsical, anthropomorphic portrayals of wildlife, reflect her unwavering determination to transform personal challenges into universal stories of hope, resilience, and joy. Far from the urban art scene, Lasha’s deep connection to the great outdoors—where she finds solace, inspiration, and humor—sets her apart, infusing her work with an authentic Northern Canadian spirit.
Beyond her studio practice, Lasha is committed to fostering inclusivity and inspiration. She offers exclusive art classes conducted entirely in ASL, designed for small groups to ensure accessibility and personalized engagement. Her ASL speaking engagements share her journey of resilience, emphasizing how the healing power of nature and a touch of humor drive her creativity, empowering audiences to embrace their own paths with courage and levity.
Due to ongoing health considerations, Lasha selectively accepts these opportunities, making each event a rare and transformative experience.
Lasha’s work and story are a testament to the power of art and nature to heal, connect, and inspire. Her artwork invites viewers to immerse themselves in a world where adversity is transformed into masterpieces of resilience, grace, and whimsical beauty.
